RPM gauge incorrectly reads 100 at idle , normal otherwise- big or little problem? 700 1991

Howdy, '91 740 turbo car runs well and idle is steady and seems to be the normal 700 or so it always was. However, the RPM gauge at idle reads only about 100 RPM, but seems to read correctly while driving.

I'm just about to leave tonight for the weekend and would like to know if the RPM sensor (or something else) is failing and may leave me stranded in the next few days. From the FAQ, it sounds really awkward and time consuming to replace. Suggestions? Replace the sensor immediately or deal with it next week?
