A/C Trouble Shooting 200 1992

The A/C compressor does not turn on, I would appreciate some tips on what to look for. I believe the freon system is intact and I have jumped the pressure switch but no compressor. My next step will be to see if I'm getting voltage to the clutch. If not can I jump the black wire from the clutch to the battery? Thanks Dan
