740 shuts off sometimes.

Most likely causes are hall sensor related or fuel pump relay as stated by others. Filter or in tank screen will not cause stall at idle when fuel demand is minimal. If it happens while driving at speed, immediately observe the tach, if drops immediatly to zero even before as engine rpm's are still winding down then it is ignition related. If tach winds down as engine winds down then it is fuel related. This is because tach signal is derived from the ignition pulses at the coil.
