Dilema regarding AC pressure sensor including function

So I found an AC leak at the pressure sensor or pressostat. The hack mechanic that I am led me to over tighten the sensor on to the drier, striping/cracking the plastic. I know a big hammer will not solve every problem ;p Now with the big road trip I have coming up, I need a replacement quick and can't find it at the local autoparts stores. I don't know what to do to get the AC running with or without the switch.

In any case, the physicist that I am is wondering how the pressure sensor operates. Any guru's out there know how the electical feedback functions on this sensor? I assume at some point when a certain pressure is reached an open circuit is achieved and actuates a cut out of the ac clutch. BUT how does it really work, I'm open to a discussion and any thoughts.

Please post any theories on the electrical operation of this sensor.

Thanks for any input,

Mark
