1991 240 AC - recharged with 134A....still not cool 200

Hello all,

Since it is July here in Carolina, it is AC weather. My daughters 91 has had a non-functional AC since I purchased the car in March 04. It has always "short cycled" where the compressor would kick on for 2 seconds & then drop out.

On advice from an old sage on AC, I purchased the EZ Chill conversion kit from Walmart & installed. In short, no good results. The system still had pressure in it (R12), and it would charge back up to nearly 35 psi when the compressor was off, but it would not build any pressure on the high side. I am suspecting either the compressor is shot & won't build pressure, or perhaps the high side pressure hose is cracked and blows down the high pressure before it can get thru the condensor. Somewhere, the high side is losing all pressure. I checked both the low & high pressure switches, and they seem to be working normaly (test unplugged both & expected results acheived). I have a set of AC gages, but could not get them out today for checking high side pressures at the compressor (the fitting is a bugger to get to!).

AC experts, please advise!
