Questions about converting a 1992 244 AC to R-134a 200 1992

Happy Independence Day to my fellow Americans out there!

I've decided that I'm gonna fix the AC systems on our four 244s. Yep, we're 0-for-4; none of 'em work. The first one I'll work on is a '92. I'll probably get the Volvo conversion kit. I will probably try to reuse the compressor. A small front-end collision destroyed the auxiliary cooling fan and put a hole in the condenser, so I will need to make trip to the P-n-P. Were the condensers on '91 and '92 models improved over 1990 and earlier models? The latest model at my P-n-P is a 1990, so that may be my only option for a used part. Alternatively, would the condenser on a 700 work?

Has anybody ever converted a '91 or '92 to 134a? Are there any things I should look for or avoid while planning and doing the job?

Thanks! I bought a Robinaire vacuum pump to help with the job. I’ll try to take lots of photos to document my experiences for others.

Glen
