car alarm activated how do you de-activate it 700 1987

I ran into this problem after I disconnected my battery to boost my wife's car. I rarely use the alarm so I did not carry the fob with me. I have a 1990 740 bought used and I was not aware that the alarm is activated when the battery is connected again. After a noisy ride home I deactivated it with the fob. Now I stash the fog in the glove compartment just in case. I later discoverd by chance that if you insert the ignition key in the ignition and turn it on (to position II, I think), and then connect the battery, the alarm will not activate. I don't know if your system is the same as yours or not.
