My post is a few previous to yours..my daughters 91 has non-functional air.
I've done several Saab 900 conversion to 134a. It goes something like this:
1. Remove the dead AC compressor, and normally the disintigration goes downstream toward the condensor, high side lines, and finally the expansions valve/tube. Purchase a can of R12 flush from Autozone made especially for this purpose. I used my air compressor behind the flush to blow it all the way thru the system. I would remove the expansion device, as it normally is killed by the metal fragments from the compressor death. On my Saab there was a small metal screen ahead of the expansion tube, which caught all the debris.
2. Buy replacement Orings all around, whereever you are breaking open the system.
3. Purchase a new filter/dryer & install.
4. Pour some of the flush thru the compressor & crank the pully to pump it out.
Make sure you pour into the suction side...if confused, crank it and feel the ports to find the negative pressure side.
5. Assemble all & then evacuate with a vacuum pump (you can pay someone to do this part only). Make sure the system holds vacuum, then you know she's tight.
6. Pay the same someone to install the 134A, or purchase the EZ Chill kit at Walmart & DIY. Follow their directions which are decent. Don't overcharge it, so calculate the amount of 134A according to 80% of the original system R12 charge.
