Tachometer in the 240...question for the more detailed at heart 200

I've installed tachs on nearly all of my 240's. However, I've noticed that my '93's tach reads much lower than the one I installed in the '90. For instance, at the same speed, in the same gear, the '93 may read 1500 rpm, while the 90 will read 2500 rpm.

I wonder then, if attaching the wire to either prong on the back of the tach makes them read differently. It seemed that the two prong connection could be hooked up on either the right or left side. Why the differenc in readings?

Thanks for the help!
