hood latch 140-160

My hood latch seems to be letting go whenever I go over a bump. Luckily the secondary latch has kept the hood from flying up into the windshield. Is there a spring or something on the cable which might have become too weak? Easily fixable? Any suggestions? I am planning an adventure to go down home to Nova Scotia in a few weeks (1600km) and would like to have it fixed by then.
