Oil Fill Cap Leaking 200 1991

Just before the tow truck hauled my '81 to the local charity, I swapped the plastic oil filler cap on the '91 I bought as a replacement with the metal one off of the '81. Both looked identical in size. Now the cap leaks. The rubber gasket is a bit stiff, so I plan to replace it. I was wondering if I screwed up and they really aren't the same. Also, how much pressure should there be in that area to make it leak.

Thanks,
Randy
