M46 OD 200 1981

If you were swapping out an OD unit, which flange would you separate it at? I have my replacement OD ready to go, including the aluminum intermediate housing (last section before the cast iron). I was wondering if it would be easier to leave the old intermediate housing on the transmission and split it at the next flange back. That way lining up the cam on the output shaft would be simpler. What do you think? OD guru?
Chad.
