How do I reinstall the interior fuse block...HELP!

I have a 1988 244 and I took the fuse block off to gain access to wireing inside the doors. I'm now wondering how I can get it back on because I fullishly did not pay enough attention when I took it apart! So there is this metal piece that goes behind with a lip. Which way should the lip be. facing the drivers door or the fire wall? I can't seem to get it to thread into anything. I'm a little scared here!
Thank's and happy bricking
