Diffenrential wonderings 200 1986

My volvo 240 doesn't yet have much of an engine, just the stock b230f. But the car being real wheel drive is a lot of fun.

My problem is most of the time only one wheel is spinning, I have heard of people «welding» their diffenrential to lock it up. Is this not good in some way? anybody knows how to do it or an alternative... Could someone rig up a system to be able to fully lock the diffenrential at times and unlock it at other?. I think that's about it for now
