I agree with Robert below. I have had numerous keys cut over the years for my 240's and 700, never a problem. Each time I went to a locksmith - one of those small businesses that is typically in a small wooden building in a Walmart or that type of business parking lot, an independent business and all they do is keys and locks. They have always said try the key out and bring it back if it does not work right. A house key they did one time did not work very well and they made another for me, but the Volvo ones have always worked like a charm; I have one that I have been using for about ten years now. Prices have gone up a bit over the years as would be expected, the last one I got cut cut a few months ago was I believe five dollars, but I had chosen the more expensive black plastic top to the key rather than just the plain metal key. I have even had a duplicate key made from the replacement key they had cut a few years ago. this key worked perfectly, so it can be done! It is the old thing when it is your business you have pride in it and doing a good job, and you absolutely cannot afford any bad publicity if you want to keep doing business.
If you want the "Volvo" on the blank see if you can buy the blank from the dealer and then take it to the professional to have it cut. I think I would then write a letter back to the head of the dealership.
