code 3-1-1 what's up? 200 1990

I was driving pretty fast yesterday on the freeway, going about 90 mph in my
1990 240 wagon.

After coming off the freeway, I noticed the idle speed is very high. I quickly drove home and shut off the engine. Upon restart the 'check engine' light came on and I retreived code 3-1-1: speedometer signal is missing.

The FAQ is says that there is something wrong with the instrument cluster. Which is very likely because last month I took it apart to bypass the temp-compensation board.

What should I do now? The car drives fine and without any codes. Should I be looking to find a new instrument cluster?
