No spark, no tach, but fuel pump runs and injectors fire...familiar to anyone? 700 1987

It's a 1987 740 wagon B230 with the Bosch ignition, no crank sensor, just the Hall sensor in the distributor.

It cranks fine but I have no spark, no tach, but the fuel pump runs and the injectors fire. I'm suspicious of the ignition amplifier, but would that explain no tach? Maybe I have two problems. The tach does do a little jump when ignition is switched on, but it's dead during cranking.

My Chilton manual doesn't show where the tach get it's signal, that would narrow things down a bit.

Any input would be a help.

Thanks for a very useful website.

Bill
