No-Start '88 780 V6 700 1988

The other day my well kept 88 780 w/160K miles on the clock died while driving @ 45 MPH. After towing home, I've determined that fuel pump in running while engine cranks; when removed, fuel comes out of return line of pressure regulator after cranking; good spark from coil; good spark at plug; still no start. If I let the car sit overnight, the first time I crank it, it fires and runs for a couple seconds then dies, subsequent tries just cranks and cranks. BTW, the tach does jump during cranking. I've checked connections and conditions of the crank position sensor, radio suppression relay, ignition control module. At this point I don't know what else to try.

The night it died, a few restart attempts seemed weird, as in fuel pressure starved (i.e. idled rough and any pressure on pedal stalled engine) or as though only running on a couple cylinders.

This weekend I plan on checking the fuel pressure at the engine, but not sure what else to try.

Any ideas or similar experiences?
