Hello all!
Well, the issue is my 1989 TDO5 turbo no longer "swooshes" when I release the accelerator. It instead sounds like a turbo on a big rig aka it screams like a baby from hell when I'm accelerating. I've called several volvo Dealers in the NJ/NY area and 5 out of 6 recommended that the turbo is about to go and that I should go to their shop asap and have a new one put in.
Needless to say spending an est. 699.00 usd on a new Mitsu turbo from turbochargers-dot-com bc their turbo expert said the CBV can't be fixed just doesn't sound right to me.
I searched the 700/900 faq and tried some searches on this wonderful site and found that the front assembly on the TDO5 can be removed via the 13mm bolts on the front. After doing so and cleaning the entire "unit" very carefully I am wondering where does someone find a replacement o-ring that will fit? It seems that 16 years and 190,000+ miles have turned the original o-ring into brittle plastic.
I spoke to a part expert at Prestige Volvo in East Hanover NJ and he informed me that the is a factory replacement part for the whole CBV "unit" but it will set me back 160 dollars. Would home depot have this piece? Pep Boys? Auto Zone? If so is there a specific name or id number? I even tried to used a spare green o-ring i had for my breather box but it was too thick.
Sorry about the long post I hope someone could steer this newbie in the right direction.
