Hi, I am a new '62 544 owner and this is my first message on this forum. I am impressed in the quality of the little car, but surprised at how hard it is to find some of the parts and how much they cost.
I am looking for some better front shocks. The ones I have now are very old and pretty much worn out. The dealer said he can get some for $75 each, but I really don't want to pay that much. Does anyone have some good new or used shocks for sale or know where I can get some? That shock is so small that when I show it to an auto parts clerk they think it is cute, but then they look up the price (if they can even find one) and the smile disappears. I still don't understand why that tiny little shock costs twice as much as many big SUV performance shocks. Maybe the inside is gold plated or has diamond valves.
