Name That Part! 900 1994

My temperature guage has been completely out for over a year now (it doesn't even move from cold at all, doesn't even twitch anymore) and I'm starting to get nervous that I'm pushing my luck. I've got about 140K on the car and have been pretty good about keeping up with the maintenence but I just don't like not knowing how hot the engine is especially running the AC in bumper to bumper traffic in 100 degree heat here in Atlanta. So I've been researching here and I've tried a few different things...I bought a voltage meter although I'm really not too sure what to do with it...anyway...I was looking around near where the temp sensor plugs into the engine block and I noticed this wire/plug just kind of hanging out not attached to anything. Could this be my problem? Should this be connected to something? Please let me know. If I can just get this guage fixed I will have fixed everything that needs fixing on the Volvo by myself (and by looking at the forums) and will be extremely satisfied!

Thanks,

Josh
