Brake lights OUT on 91 240 - smoke rising from steering column area.... 200

All,

My daughter advised me that she has lost all brake lights on her Brick.
Tail & reverse lights are working.....I have asked her to confirm if the 4ways will work (I believe to burn the same lamps as the brakes except 3rd light).

She tells me when she started the car, a small plume of smoke rose from somewhere near the steering wheel. I am presuming the switch downstairs near the pedals has dead shorted out....or switch failed, etc. etc.

Haven't any experience working with these electricals on the Brick...plenty on my Saab 900 collection but not this. Also, where is the fuse located? I have a Bentley, but am told that fuses are scattered hither & yon on the Bricks.

Thanks!
