Why run prememum fuel?

Some folks feel better putting in more expensive gas ...

And there is a difference ... between brands. Yeah, they're all supposed to meet octane minimums, but some (around SoCal, it's Arco, Thrifty, Valero, many independents, etc.) are definitely poorer quality than the major brands (Unocal, Chevron, etc.)

Such said, higher octane gas is necessary if your car is designed for it, like my 745Ti (turbo) or the P220 (can't get leaded anymore). However, the normally aspirated engines are designed to be fine on regular, and will not yield much of a difference in power, if at all, on premium.

Premium does burn a bit cleaner, though. It helps during the smog checks.
