idiot lights

The line of warning lights is the same for almost every 240 model, and has been so for years. They also seem to come from the factory with a bulb behind every place, shether used or not.

The wiring is what sets it for a specific car. If your car doesn't use one of the lights, that one becomes the donor for a swap to replace a burnt out bulb.

The 1986 sedan fog lights are the upper inner red lights in the tail light panel. They are wired to come on only if the switch under the headlight switch is turned on, and the headlights are on low beam.

Other fog lights, front mounted perhaps, can be after-factory installed. The warning light on the instrument cluster may be used if a factory system is used.

Be aware that should most of the warning lights come on while driving, and the engine dies, it's probably a timing belt failure. If the engine does not die, it an alternator-related failure. It may indicate a failure in the wiring harness that leads to the alternator. The 1986 DOES have the crumbling-insulation disease.

Good Luck,

Bob
