Can the front pipe (header) be welded to the spin flange? 200

Subject pretty well describes it. The spin flange on the header has deteriorated to the point that the back of the header pipe is completely free. The pipe is in good condition, and nests nicely in the flange, so can I just get it welded to the flange and spare the expense of a new cat and header?
