STRUT bushing et al questions 700 1989

I've determined struts need to replaced.

I'm tempted to go with local supplier and get Sensitrak but common Bricker Wisdom has it that Bilstein Touring is a good choice for family machine.

When I push down on fender, I can feel vertical play between exposed rubber bushing and shock tower. Both sides seem equal.

When I change the struts I may buy the strut bearings to have on hand, but what else would I need to replace that would cause this vertical play at top of strut?

Thanks in advance

Norm
