A/C Compressor and Thermostat 900

Mornin,

I tried lookin around and couldn't find some similar to what I was experiencing...

The A/C was not blowing cold air like it usually does, so my first guess what that the freon was low... but after i popped the hood open, I noticed the A/C compressor was kicking in, and then turning off after 2seconds. It keeped doing this over and over again... Please Help! its really hot in Houston. (I hope I don't have to change the compressor, or I might have to hand over another arm or leg)

Thanks in advance!
Al

p.s. Do I need to worry about the thermostat (digital one, to the lower left) on the dashboard. I think it isn't working because its always 88F and the frost light is always on... Worth changing? is it expensive? is it simple?
