Based on my experience and problems in Panama and green country (NE Oklahoma,
where it gets pretty hot and humid also) with 3 different 122s, 1966 and 67,
all with B20 carbureted engines, I'd suggest the following:
Get a good electric fan to blow through the radiator from the front. Manual
or thermostat control would be good. You can get these at a salvage - be
sure and measure the space first.
Get an air conditioning unit from a salvage that has the inside unit and the condenser in good shape. Make sure there is room for this and the fan both
in front of the radiator.
Get a good rotary compressor and the required compressor mount adaptor.
Sanden is good and there are also other good ones. The old York compressor
is very standard but inefficient.
Then get it piped up with fittings for 134 refrigerant and appropriate valves,
hoses, etc. Make sure that your underdash blower is good and strong and that the drain WORKS WELL. Bigger drain hose and fewer curves in it is better.
(Air conditioner drains are particularly perverse about getting stopped up and
making you think something is leaking. Your feet may even grow webs between
the toes.)
On the 122, cooling at idle is the major problem when using AC.
