a/c problems in Texas

My 95 850 wagon has been turning the a/c off and blowing hot air..the mechanic called and told me the ignition has been burned up and the compressor clutch is the problem child.

Can you buy clutch w/out buying the compressor??

Has anyone else had this happen?
