Forest's latest adventure (more entertainment than anything) 200

I'll start this (hopefully brief) tale off by saying that on Sunday, I spent the day under my car, checking and preping for a little road trip. Caught a couple things (loose power feed to fuel pump) and was generally happy with everything.

Tuesday morning I'm driving into work. At a fairly busy intersection in the beginning of morning traffic I attempt to shift from first to second, only to have my left foot hit the floor and the gear shift not move.

Wherever you were, if you listened hard enough, you probably would have heard me at about 8:10 pacific time. And it probably would have made your ears red.

Knew what it was as soon as it happened... because, well, this was the third time. That's right, the clutch cable gave up. Thinking back for a second... did I check the clutch cable on sunday?

At 8:11 you probably would have heard me again

Thankfully I was able to get it onto a side street without much hassle. Also thankfully, there was a volvo dealership within walking distance. Now, the clutch cable there was over twice as much as the aftermarket I've bought previously. But, the aftermarket ones tend to break (as I've now learned twice the hard way.. how's that go, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice...?) The real fun came in strippin off what work clothes I could and still be seen publicly, and shimmying along the ground under my car to instal this sucker. Good thing for me that I'm fairly slim. And now, the clutch cable will out last the car.

I guess the moral of the story would be: There's some parts you can well get away with going after market for, but there's others where you shouldn't. One of them is the clutch cable.

And on an interesting tech note, I was very pleasantly surprised at how smooth and easy the throw on the clutch pedal is with the factory cable... huge difference vs the tiawaneese POS.

Cheers, guys. Keep em rolling.
