Rear axle differences 120-130

Perhaps this pic is a bit clearer.



If I were you I'd replace both bearings (left+right) since play would have been the same for both.

Haynes says something about a locking ring behind the half shaft bearing. It says you have to drill a hole in it and then split it with a chisel. Can't remember how it looks on the axles I took apart however.
I think you would be able to replace bearings yourself. Shimming and putting a new seal in is pretty standard.

About the non-tapered half shafts: I never seen, nor heard of them before. Here in Europe all are tapered, up to the last ones. So if you're thinking of swapping half shafts / bearings you might give it a try.
