Valve adjustment. 200

OK, I pride myself on being DIY with all my Volvos but the '91 245 had the head rebuilt (by the PO) and now the valves are all clackity. So I could rent the IPD shim kit and tool for 30 days for about $60 or my local garage will do the whole job for about $100. I'm really tempted to let them do it. I suppose I could take the valve cover off and measure everything and order seven or eight shims from FCP for $15, but I still don't have the tool and I'd have to have the hood up for a week waiting for parts. This is a tough one, I'd love to learn how to adjust valves but the price break makes so much more sense to let someone else do it. Anyone want to talk me into doing this myself?
