Popping sound 900 1995

940 Non-turbo

Occasionally I get this hesistation for a second or two and then followed by a 'pop' sound in the bonnet.
Any ideas what causes this?
Checked air leak but could not find any.

Also my center muffler (the one that comes after the cat) gives a much louder sound on acceleration, on 1st to 2nd shift. Checked the muffler for holes but could not find any nor are the joint leaking air. A mechanic told me the air channel inside is probably corroded but I could not hear any metallic sound when I hammered it.
Possible that some thing did come loose inside.

Also would you recommend a bosal replacement?

Thanks all.

Laozong
