my brick is almost right...but so far from good 200 1986

after the head rebuild, head gasket replace and timing belt replace i put the thing together and finally it is running. I has a problem now however. cold starting is no problem. hot starting immediatly after shut-down is no problem either. If i allow the hot engine to sit for 5-10 min. and start it, it sputters and coughs and acts like it is flooded. holding the trottle down to about 3000rpms for a second or 2 clears her lungs. As advised by a fellow brick boarder, I examined the timing belt again today to see if I was the ever popular "one tooth off". It was not. the sprockets all lined up and the marks were just right. source One eliminated. after attempting to start the hot engine which had been sitting for 5-10 min as it was in the middle of stumbbling and gasping in a semi-flooded state I pulled the vacume line which runs from the throttle body to the fuel pressure regulator to examine for errant gasoline. There was none. Source two eliminated. Where do I look next? additionally the car still surges at idle a bit and sometimes idles way down low until the idle air valve opens a bit and picks up the idle. I also noticed a clicking sound comming from the dash/center console area (similar to the sound of that thing they use at sea world to train the dolphins...or a D-Day Alied force clicker) the clicking seemed to have no rhyme or reason and was altogether random in frequency. I have still harbor a sneaking suspicion that the damn coolant temp sensor is the culprit (can serious overheating kill one? the guage sensor lived throught the ordeal)...I read on here that there is a fuel pump relay that could be doing the clicking? Is that a likely or possible source of the problem? could someone please help. Thanks to the others who have offered guidance thus far....I dont wanna have to bury the old girl just yet, but she is making me hate her
