Fuel Pump relay 200

Hi,
I posted a few days ago and got some help finding the fuel pump relay. At first I thought that the relay was bad and that was the reason that the pump didn't run. So I got a proven good one. Pump still does not run. It runs when I jump the red to the red/yellow wires. So my question is: how do I check that there is power getting to the relay. Could it be that the ignition switch connections are at fault? Which wires? And how do I get the switch out to check it without causing any damage. The previous owner did mention to me that the tach would drop to "0" at times and then resume working and the idle would fluctuate. Could a bad connection at the ignition switch cause the relay to energize and then de-energize? Just guessing. Could anyone offer suggestions? Thanks Again Alan
