The voltage generator on my 1969 121-S is bad

I'm sorry, I misread that. Either that, or you mis-wrote it (or you were ill-informed by your mechanic.)

While a generator generates voltage, I have never heard it referred to as a "voltage generator".

George is right. Motorola did not make generators. You may need a voltage regulator for your Motorola alternator. They are available - no reason to convert your alternator.
