1997 964 load of lumber in the back 900 1997

Has any other owner of late nineties 960s had this experience? You're driving down the road and the suspension hits a little rise..maybe 3/4" to 1" in the road..the front suspension soaks it up pretty nicely, but at the back, it sounds as if four or five 2 x 4s you're carrying have thumped up and down. and this is with no load int hecar other than fuel and a spare!

I wonder if it's that huge plastic transverse spring not flexing quickly enough to keep up with the arms..and banging down with a sound like lumber? The otherwise excellent dealer in west-end Toronto didn't know what to suggest.
