Anyone have knowledge of A/C vent servo units and replacement on '96 960? 900

I have been told by my Volvo repair guru that what is causing my a/c flow to cut off on acceleration is bad servo units that control the air flow to the vents. He said that the diaphragms wear out and crack, causing it to default to an open position when you accelerate, thereby cutting off your air flow at the a/c vents. I'm not sure exactly what the units are called, technically speaking. Does this sound right to any of you and has anyone out there ever actually done this job? What is the difficulty/frustraion level of it?
Thanks for any help!
