1988 740 GL estate -- erratic gas gauge

2) Noticed some other posts on this, but just wanted to ask whether others experienced gas gauges that work sometimes and sometimes surge up each time you 'do something' to the car, like turn lights on or shift auto tranny from one gear to another.
