You're also the king of LT posts... these are long. But you got some replies this time :-) Amazing what happens when you make threats to put your vintage Volvo into semi-retirement.

Dont' bother with that timing gear set on ebay... it's probably fair market value for the parts he's offering, but you can get by with just a fiber gear and leave the crank gear in place.

But the timing gears ain't your problem... they are an all/nothing deal. If you think they are going, go ahead and replace it, but it won't make your car run any better.

Hope you and Andrew can hook up and get some stuff sorted out. Don't watch him though... have him watch you do the work.
