Should I or shouldn't I . . . 200

Fred,

I think your son will come around. Our oldest son HATED the '91 244 we gave him. Then he hit a pickup truck that pulled out in front of him, totaling both vehicles. He and his friend, both of whom were not wearing their seatbelts, walked away without a scratch. The 244 could have been fixed for a couple $k, but I needed a tranny and other things for another 244, and decided make it a parts car. I then gave him a 1990 244DL. He ran this car off the road and hit a stump (or at least that's his story), bending the strut steering arm in the process. A garage wanted more than $1000 to replace the strut. I told him he would have to cover the bill. After allowing him to squirm for a few days, I replaced the strut with one from his old car for absolutely no out of pocket cash.

He also began getting compliments about his car from some of his buddies. He also got a couple of offers to buy the car for up to twice what I paid for it. Now he identifies with the car, freaks out if I don't help him change the oil at EXACTLY 3000 miles, and asks me about the function of different parts of the car.

I predict that within a few months, your car will come to love his 240, especially if you fix the AC! Working together is a great way for you two to bond.

Glen
