Cheap flexi-tube exhaust is stock? need more info... 200 1989

Ah-hah.....YES, I do remember the setup now...i owned a 240 for a year as a first car and my memory of it is fairly dim. The heaving-puffing-tractor noises of the unmuffled exhaust seem to be coming more from the engine/front of car area than at the back of the car so is there anything I should pay attention to?

I'm sure its a fairly simple fix...a leak or disconnected muffler or such. fingers crossed.
