removing and substituting front headrest

I have always owned volvo's - I have a 1987 240 - and the headrest has three parts to it, molded plastic that you could see through. The newer models have a solid high headrest ( in particular an 1997 850 GLT). Is it possible to take the older headrest and put in on the 1997 850? I feel the solid headrest leaves more of a blind spot and I miss the old version. Does anyone know if it can be done? safely? and if so, what steps would I take ...thank you ahead of time
