plastic connector at distributor

I finally changed my distributor cap and rotor (at least 115K) on my 1985 740 Gle 8 valve with LH FI ignition.

while prying off rotor dust cap moved and the black wiring thing on the bottom of the distrib housing popped off. Is this the Hall sensor? How big a deal is it to get it clipped back on the body?

Can I replace just the plastic clip with the wires running out into the distrib.?

Will car start with that plastic piece not firmly clipped onto distrib body?
