header downpipe designs 700 1990

I wonder if someone can tell me the difference in design of header pipes for 740s with and without EGR. My car is 1990 745 with EGR. I ordered the correct pipe and the invoice shows that, but I think that the store may have sent me one for a car without EGR. Unfortunately, the label is now burned off the pipe and I can't verify. I found during installation of the pipe and a new cat that this setup was about 2.5 inches short; I had to buy an adapter to extend it to the the first muffler pipe. After installing and driving, it bumps against the bottom of the car going over bumps and at startup. The pipe bolts on to the bracket just fine, so it looks OK from the manifold downward. However, it is a few inches too short before it bends upward on the back end, just before the flange to the cat. Because the bend occurs too soon, there isn't enough clearance. This explains the need to extend to fit the muffler pipe. In hindsight I should have aligned the new with old when both were detached. I'm wondering if the difference in design of the two types of header pipes will account for my problem. In any event, I have to call the supplier, but thought I would check for background information here first.
