felt sick working on car; transmission oil, rear axle oil? 200 1986

I guess it's kind of obvious that gasoline fumes can make you feel sick, but I've had a couple of experiences with other things too.

Some time ago, I dropped the automatic transmission pan, and in the process of putting things back together, I started feeling nauseous, eventually getting sick to my stomach. I thought at the time that it might have been something i ate, but when I changed my rear axle oil recently (probably original), I felt the same way.

I forget how it was doing the transmission, but I had the garage doors closed when doing the rear axle because it was a little cool, so there wasn't very good ventilation.

Do fumes from transmission oil and/or rear axle oil cause nausea, to the point that one should ensure good ventilation, as with gas, lacquer thinner, etc.?

Can getting your hands drenched in transmission or rear axle oil (or even motor oil) make you sick?
