CRUISE CONTROL RETROFIT PROBLEM FUEL PUMP FAULT SOLUTION 700 1990

My Volvo dealer is trying to retrofit a cruise control.After12 weeks,11 days at various times and various faults such as a reverse wired plug on the kit he has got as far as it working only to drop out consistently at 38mph. I usually trundle around at about 60mph so this is a bit on the slow side even for me.
Any ideas what can be wrong? We have checked the wiring and the various switches and all seems o.k. the speed sensor is giving a correct output at all speeds.

Perhaps the following may help another 700 owner
Intermittent engine cutout, restarts after a few minutes, lambda light comes on.
This was caused by an intermittent fault in the relay which controls the underfloor petrol pump.Eventually the relay caused the emu output to fail probably by 'spiking' the transistor. A new emu didnt solve the prob as the relay was still faulty, changing the relay eradicated the problem.
