intermittant stall start problems 93 940 900 1993

Hi all--my fathers 03 940 with 259k miles has been acting up-it has a remote starter and door lock opener which I beeive was going bad as the thing would activate on its own a few times the past few weeks. I carefully removed the system and also changed the elc part of the ignition switch as it felt a bit sloppy and sometimes some assecorries wouldnt work without jiggling the switch a bit. After doing this-ran fine for a week--and now--back to the old trick-intermittant stalling--sometimes it starst right up--sometimes only after it sits awhile. The last time it happned-my Dad did notice the tach NOT moving while trying to start it. Now--Im thinking of the rpm sensor as a potential cause beacuse of this. Anyone have any opinions--when this doesnt happen--the car runs like new. For what its worth--the car has the Rex Regina coil and I havent checked the obd for any codes yet. Thanks--this is getting to be a nuisance--the car looks and runs like new-but--pushing an old volvo doesnt make the heart grow any fonder of it--haha--thanks
