If the car is equipped with the compensation board you can remove it and solder in a jumper. I'm not sure when they stared using the compensation boards on the 200 cars but I think it was 1985 model year.

There is a site that shows how to remove the instrument cluster if you are not familiar with the procedure. I don't have that url but if you posted with that specific request someone would provide it.

Once the cluster is out the image below walks you through the simple process of eliminating the compensation board completely. This is a permanant fix.
