Wobbly speedometer -58 544 - What can be wrong? 444-544

I took my oldie to work today, and noticed on my way back that the red line was wobbling noticeably. Does anybody have hints on where to search? Is it the wire that needs grease, or the dented thingy in the gearbox which has broken? Or is the meter starting to break down? Greatful for all kinds of tips before I go for the toolbox.
